I had the pleasure of working with and being a dresser to one of the main principle girls. This gave me the opportunity to develop and enhance my dressing and quick changing skills as a lot of her changes were incredibly quick. My favourite change of the show was the end change where they had to change into a glittery jumpsuit in 15 seconds. Being my first show as an assistant, I had the opportunity to work with the supervisor and head of department to alter and sew the costumes. Helping to guide and teach the dressers during the show and tech week was a great learning opportunity and enhanced ,my skills for future productions.

I really enjoyed working on this production as both the cast and crew were incredible. There was 1 change at the beginning of the show with Greg which wasn't fast but I still had to check he was looking neat and tidy when going back on stage. We also had a mic change, on stage during the performance, this involved hiding behind set and taking the mic pack of the actor, staying on stage until the black out. The main difficulty with this show was keeping Suzie's jumpsuit completely pleated whilst also keeping the bodice steamed. This involved re pleating and steaming the jumpsuit before every show.

This shows costumes consisted of a lot of formal wear, suits etc. this meant making sure everything was ironed and steamed so that it looked neat. I had to opportunity to embellish the ceremonial gown that the main actor wore at the beginning of the show which was an amazing opportunity as I got to show my other sewing skills as well as alterations.

On this show we had a lot of fake alcohol and beverages which posed a threat of spillage and staining on costumes. for one of the costumes this was purposeful and we had 2 shirts for Josh, 1 which was clean and 1 which had a pre made stain on to shored wine had been spilt. This was swapped during a scene change in a black out by the other actors on stage around him. This involved the manager and I having conversations on how to complete this change with the performers and the most efficient way to carry it out.

I learnt a lot of new costume breaking down skills on this show, learning how to use paint, graters and dying to create the look of the costumes being well used. Every night after the show, we would spray down Adam's suit and hanging it up with shoe laces through the legs to make it crease in the knee to ensure it looks like he wore the suit all the time. I was the main wardrobe person on this show which gave me the opportunity to home my potential management skills.

This was another show with a lot of formal wear, so again, a lot of steaming and ironing of shirts. During the show, the main actress had to reveal on stage an underdressed kimono. The bottom of the kimono had to be hidden and folded into a secret pocket in the coat she wore on top of the kimono. The scene before the change, I had to fold the kimono into this pocket ready for Claire to put on.

There was a lot of changes during this show, some of which were quick. The change into the judges robes all happened at once and were quite quick, this consisted of making sure the hooks and bars on the top of the neckline were done up to ensure the robe wouldn't fall off the performer. Another thing we had to check was the male actors ties and making sure thye are sitting straight on them.

This show included an on stage change, blood, a rip away dress and lots of quick changes. I organised and conducted the blood clean up during every show and also made sure that the actress was able to complete the on stage change every show and was ready to step in should there have been any issues.

The Wind in the Willows was the first CFYT show I worked on and it was a huge learning curve. I learnt how to train and teach young adults / children how to dress and perform quick changes. Helping the kids learn is a privilege and watching their skills and confidence grow throughout the run was incredible. I also had to opportunity to make some costumes on this show, such as the rabbit / mouse dresses and ears.

The Jungle Book was an amazing show to work on, again, helping our dressers to learn how to quick change and also pre set whilst following a plot. I had the opportunity to make the young wolves quilted body warmers as well as general alterations and fixing which come with any show.

This show involved a lot of quick changes for our young dressers to contend with, the majority with the principle characters Cinderella and the prince. We helped facilitate the changes and guided the dressers in the best way to complete the changes. Having worked on the previous 2 CFYT Christmas shows, it was incredible to see the development of all the junior crew and cast members in the last 3 years.
