Dressing

Chichester festival theatre:

Sing Yer heart out for the lads

  • Director: Joanna Bowman

  • Costume designer: Amelia Jane Hankin

  • Costume supervisor: Josie Thomas

  • This was the first show that I worked on at Chichester Festival Theatre, I quickly learnt how to set up a dressing room, prepare laundry and complete costume changes during the show. Although, there weren't any quick changes during this show, I learnt a lot about the general structure of theatre and the way to communicate with my colleagues and performers. This was the first time I delt with fake blood and learning how to clean it up as one of the actors got stabbed and it went on his white t-shirt.

The Narcissist

  • Director: Josh Seymour

  • Costume designer: Jasmine Swan

  • Costume supervisor: Jennie Quirk

  • This show had a few quick changes which I learnt and practiced how to do during tech week. This show also had the added complications of harnesses for the actors who stood up on the top 'pods' which we had to consider whilst dressing. For example, one of the actresses had a slit in the back of her trousers to ensure the clip on the hardness could be attached safely.

Local Hero

  • Director: Daniel Evans

  • Costume designer: Frankie Bradshaw

  • Costume supervisor: Lisa Aitken and Laura Rushton

  • Local Hero was my first musical I worked on, and what a great one it was! I had an amazing time learning how to dress and quick change a principle actress as well as ensemble. I had the added difficulty of working out and remembering the order in which the principle actress needed her costumes as well as keeping her calm and collected for her time on stage after a quick  change.

4000 Miles

  • Director: Richard Eyre

  • Costume designer: Peter McKintosh

  • Costume supervisor: Yvonne Milnes

  • Working with these 4 amazing actors developed my quick changing skills as well as my communication skills. I mainly dressed Bash during this show as he had the most changes which included both half and full costume. My favourite change from this show was completing a full costume change (trousers and t-shirt) behind the set door CB at the end of a scene during a black out, for him to then re enter at the beginning of the next scene. This was one of the fastest changes I had completed and even got compliments on it from audience members.

mom, how did you meet the beatles?

  • Director: Diyan Zora

  • Costume designer: Anisha Fields

  • Costume supervisor: Helen Flower

  • Although this production only had 2 performers in it, I learnt that I still takes takes just as much work as the audience are looking more closely at the 2 costumes on the stage, especially considering that neither of the performers had changes. I had to ensure that at the beginning of the show, both actors were looking neat and tidy before going onto stage and checking in at the end of each performance to make sure that nothing was wrong with the costumes.

Tarantara Productions Ltd:

the pirates of penzance

  • Director: Donna Stirrup

  • Costume designer: Laura Stanfield

  • Costume supervisor: Josie Thomas

  • I joined this production at its first venue (Chichester Festival Theatre) during tech week. My main job was a dresser, however, a lot of the costumes needed altering, maintaining and fixing due to them being rented and old / vintage. There was a handful of changes but none of them quick which meant that I needed to check on the performers as they came back to stage. I needed to help one of the actresses into their costume at the beginning of the show as there was a lot of buttons and fastenings as well as screw on earrings. This was an amazing opportunity as I had never worked on an opera before so got to handle some new experience's.
